Last Saturday at 8:30 hrs UNITRAV member and Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi, stood on the peak of Mount Everest for the tenth time. This time with a flag on which the logos of FNV, the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions and Unitrav could be seen. Planting this flag acted as a wake-up call for the whole world: climate change is now affecting the labour market and employment!
By way of their action they want to call attention to:
👉 Unplanned and dangerous road construction.
👉 Threat to biodiversity.
👉 Destruction of trekking trails alongside scenic beauty.
👉 Trekking days changed to trips by vehicle to keep the journey as short as possible.
👉 A trekking trail that once took a month has now been reduced to a week.
👉 This has had an impact on guides and bearers, as they are paid by the day.
Together, we are fighting for a world in which workers are protected from the devastating impact of climate change! We would like to thank UNITRAV, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa and GEFONT for their tireless support for our Just Transition campaign.
